Corporate Portrait Photography Spain - Bodegas Montecillo, Navarrete, La Rioja, Spain
Bodegas Montecillo, in Navarrete (La Rioja), makes very drinkable wine that is a household brand widely sold across Spain. It’s part of the Osborne group who’s marketing is probably best associated with the giant bull silhouette statues you see near main roads as you travel around the country.
To differentiate Montecillo from other household wines widely sold across Spain, the photographic brief was to produce elegant images which showed the professionalism and personality of winemaker Merche García and her creations.
Portrait and editorial photographer in La Rioja
I like the challenge of turning a workplace into a studio. A winery full of beautiful barrels makes the job easier but I was still working in what was basically an underground concrete bunker. So the idea here was to hide all the less photogenic parts and use my lights to selectively show the barrels and Merche.
When working with people who are not used to being photographed professionally I like to keep a simple set up so I can concentrate on making the subject relax. In portrait photography a photographer’s people skills are just as important as their technical ones.
Montecillo is also lucky as its vines are located in beautiful locations so a second part of the brief was to capture landscape photos that spoke of the wine’s terroir. As I live locally, I was able to plan my sessions to coincide with good weather and the beautiful autumn colours.
